Barrier Islands

Join one of our knowledgeable park rangers for an informative talk on the natural history of sea islands and their important role in coastal ecology. The topics addressed will include beach erosion, island migration, island formation and the natural communities present on such barrier islands today. The program will take place at pavilion one on Little Talbot Island. No reservations are necessary and the program is free with regular park admission.

Fall Roar 'n Snore 2009

The Catty Shack Ranch hosts an evening of camping and more while listening to the big cats talk to each other at night. $40 per person for ages 12 and up; $25 per child, ages 7 to 12; $10 per child, ages 3-6; 3 years and under free. Admission includes 10x10 campsite, catered BBQ dinner, night tour and feeding, bonfire with marshmallows and smores, and a continental breakfast. $40 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your campsite. Hands-Only CPR Class

Mayo Clinic, along with the St. Johns County Fire Rescue and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, will be offering an adult, hands-only CPR class and AED (automated external defibrillator) training for non-certification at Mayo. The hands-only CPR class is to be used on adults who suddenly collapse. Mayo Clinic and the EMS will also provide information on how to detect early heart attack signs and symptoms of acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
The hands-only CPR training courses will be held at Mayo Clinic, in Kinne Auditorium, Cannaday Building. You can register online or by calling 904-953-0770. Each 30-minute, non-certification class consists of an instructional and hands-on component. Arrive anytime between 9am and 3pm. Minimum age to participate is 14.

Night of Lights: Light Up the Night

St. Augustine mayor Joe Boles will be joined by past mayors in the historic Plaza de la Constitucion to "flip the switch" to light up the Nights of Lights. The festivities begin at 4pm with a holiday performance by Showtime USA. At 5:30pm, the All Star Orchestra will perform in the Plaza's Gazebo. Then at 6:30pm, all attending will be asked to participate in the countdown to the lighting. The 16th Annual Nights of Lights will continue nightly through January 31.

Thanksgiving Day Fun Run

The 1/2 Marathon and 6K will start together at 8am on San Jose Boulevard in front of the Outback Mandarin Plaza. The one mile for kids will start right after the start of 1/2 marathon and 6K at the corner of Pall Mall and San Jose about 100 yards in front of the 1/2 marathon starting line. A portion of each entry will go to the Mandarin Food Bank. Entry fees: Fun Run-$12 until November 25 and $15 day of event; 6K-$25 until November 25 and $30 day of event: 1/2 marathon-$35 until November 25 and $40 day of event. In addition to the entry fees, bring a non-perishable food item or add $1 to entry fee.

Turkey Trot

The 5K Turkey Trot begins at 8am, with the Kids Fun Run starting at 9am. Race will start and finish at the Racquet Park Parking Lot, located next to the Verandah Restaurant. All proceeds benefit the Nassau County Humane Society. Entry fee is $25 per adult, $15 per child (12 and under). Day of race registration is available.
